With great sadness, we express our condolences for the passing of Jan Valo, a renowned Serbian photographer from Novi Sad. Jan’s work was a genuine reflection of his talent and passion for photography. His absence will be deeply felt not only by the photography community in Serbia but also beyond.
The main motif in his photographs were people. As he himself will say:
At the core of life are people. As social beings, we form communities and cities. While my photographs often capture the solitude and alienation of individuals, life itself is a tapestry of both light and shadow. Perhaps it’s this sense of estrangement that makes photography challenging for me, yet it mirrors the complexities of life. Our world is increasingly marked by isolation, overshadowed by negativity and vanity. In the face of these challenges, I strive to convey a simple yet powerful message: that people should come together, converse, forge connections, and, in every circumstance, share the goodness within themselves. Through my art, my aim is to rekindle a sense of connection among people.
While we mourn Jan’s passing, we extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. His legacy will live on through his beautiful photography and the impact he made on those around him.
