At a ceremonial event held on November 8, 2024, the Photo Club Kumanovo celebrated the significant milestone of 505 years since the founding of the city of Kumanovo with a thematic photography exhibition. This event, dedicated to the history, development, and future of the city, attracted a large number of visitors, including citizens, artists, historians, and photography enthusiasts.
The exhibition “505 Years of Kumanovo” was a kind of time travel, connecting the past and present of the city through photographs. The display included rare and historical photographs that depicted the appearance of old Kumanovo — the cobblestone streets, traditional buildings, famous locations, and personalities that shaped the city’s spirit. These images were juxtaposed with modern photographs of new Kumanovo, highlighting the dynamic urban development, modern architecture, and the vibrant life of the city today.
The event began with a welcoming speech by the president of Photo Club Kumanovo, who emphasized the importance of photography as a medium for preserving history and cultural identity. He also reflected on the significance of Kumanovo as a city with a rich past and a bright future, which, over the past 505 years, has managed to transform and adapt to modern challenges while preserving its authentic spirit.
In addition to the visual story, the exhibition offered an informative section, where visitors could read interesting facts about key moments in the history of Kumanovo. This combination of photography and historical data allowed for a different way of experiencing and understanding the city’s rich history.
Attendees were visibly impressed by the wealth of materials and the way the exhibition connected different time periods. For many, it was an opportunity to recall old Kumanovo, compare it with the present, and get inspired for the future. The younger generations, on the other hand, had the chance to learn about the past of their city and recognize the importance of preserving it.
The “505 Years of Kumanovo” exhibition was more than just a cultural event; it was a celebration of the city’s identity and spirit. With this exhibit, Photo Club Kumanovo once again demonstrated that photography can be a bridge between generations, transmitting values and stories that define a society.
